Salzburg, Germany to Venice, Italy
Shirley Carter wrote:
"Venice was a long day bus ride. Then we boated over to our hotel."
A view of Salzburg from our hotel rooftop . . .
. . . just as the sun was rising.
We just walked across that bridge and we could shop.
Salzburg is a beautiful city . . .
. . . mountains, the river, great shopping . . .
. . . The Sound Of Music, a great place to visit!
The sun has risen. Time to get up and head for breakfast!
Sarah, Lindsey and Mallory are packed and ready to go.
On the bus and time for a mid-morning nap.
Looks like everyone on the bus is resting.
Sweet dreams, Kathryn!
Lunch en route
We ate lunch at McDonald's and in back while I was ordering I saw cats in the kitchen, and though you think that's gross it's actually good because they kill the rats. Chantal Carey |
Time for lunch at good old McDonalds!
On our very long bus ride we learned that when people are stuck in traffic, they get out of their cars and talk, smoke, eat, drink, and just have fun. Lindsay Power |
Even in Germany they have traffic jams.
Back on the bus, everyone is enjoying the ride. Right, Mrs. Carey?
Cars are totally stopped, so the Germans get out of their cars to visit!
Venice, Italy Saturday afternoon
Then we arrived in Venice
Finally, we make it to Venice, and Group A and Group B are back together.
It was good to get off the bus after a long ride!
We had to go to the hotel on a ferry . . .
. . . so our luggage was transported on a boat.
Then at 5:30 we arrived in Venice and met Group B. Venice has 118 islands connected by canals for boats. We went by boat to our hotel. Sarah McJunkin |
It's time to load our water taxi.
94 of us all back together, but a lot of people for 1 water taxi.
Then we arrived at the Hotel Nazionale
The buildings are right on the water and very old.
We got off the water taxi and walked to our hotel,
the Hotel Nazionale.
While Debi and Layne checked us in . . .
. . . we just hung out
actually our hanging bags just plain laid down!
Girls wait for their rooms and their luggage.
It's hot here!
After getting our rooms, we walked to a nearby restaurant.
Then it's dinner time just a short walk from our hotel.

"It was late and we walked
to a restaurant. The food was outstanding.
In Italy they begin with
an appetizer lasagna, then a salad,
and then we had mushroom
chicken and peas and carrots.
The dessert was prepared
special individual with ice cream
decorated with chocolate.
The second meal started with spaghetti.
All the Italians were excited
about the football finals (soccer). France won."
We were entertained by an accordian serenader.
We went to this nice restaurant, there was an accordian player and he played some well known songs. We all started singing along. We all had a great time. Jennifer Holland |
Debi and Mrs. Priddy enjoyed the music.
Mrs. Gordon really enjoyed the music - what a smile!
Mrs. McNellis and Mrs. Maksimik even sing along with the music!
Welcome to Venice, everyone!
Liddie wants him to come serenade her table.
Mrs. Lee gave the guy a tip for the fun she had.
Mr. Carey is just thrilled to be in Venice - I think.
The waitress we had was really sweet and when we left we said
"ciao" to her.
|
Marilyn applauds the entertainment.
We went on a Vaporetto ride on the Canel Grande. Venice is cool, I like it. Brittany Trobaugh |
After dinner we took a Vaporetto boat ride around Venice.
The setting sun made the buildings glow in a special way
Then the lights of the city took over
The sun was setting and the buildings were amazing.
After it got dark the girls had time to visit after being apart for 3 days.
The ride was over - what a great way to say "Hello"
to Venice!
Everyone enjoyed our guide, Ilse and she enjoyed the girls too.
